Yorktown News-View GOD first...Heavenly Father, today I feel alone, yet I am not lonely. There is peace in solitude while I pray in quietness to lead my thoughts to restful healing. Help me use this time alone to find myself and reach deep inside my heart and mind to find peace. Customer: “That’s great. How long will it run if you wind it?” Broadband installation has been progressing at a fast place all over Nordheim in the past 2 or 3 weeks as men and drilling equipment bores underground at about 2 feet. Many lines on the streets mark off routes of gas, electric, telephone, and sewer lines have been located. What these workers are doing is first inserting the underground liners in which the fiber optics will run through. People depending on the old land lines that has been provided by AT&T direct lines that are pole mounted (the old telephone lines) are becoming obsolete after 70 years or more. Lightning strikes have knocked out service several times requiring technicians to try and keep up with down times. A lot of these technicians with a lot of experience are retiring and new ones are not being placed as fast. Altho AT&T are not part of this, we understand that this underground system is some of the latest advancements of service another company will provide.

There isn’t any requirement to use this new service but can be accepted by individuals who are interested. First timers will be hooked up free with a monthly rate following.

Each of the underground utilities are carefully dug up from the surface of the ground to the line already there to make sure none are distrubed or cut. Then one of the operators makes sure the bore drill goes over them safely. As of today, most of the underground drilling is almost finished. Then the next phase of work installing the fiber optics and junction boxes will begin. So far, all we see is tubing stuck out of the ground. When finished, all the evidence of work will disappear and be replaced by boxes at the surface. It should not interfere with lawn mowing and exc.

Kaffee Klatch has been going on ....how long? Most of the origional people have gone to the coffee room up in the sky except Myrtle and Gilbert. She and I have been thinking about this for a long time. But time has a way of losing track. From the days of Hella Magee making good strong coffee to now, it’s hard to imagine all those who have come and helped make this happen. Back when Amos & Andy cafe closed down, some of those regulars were without a place to socialize, tell lies, and drink coffee in the mornings. Well now, we don’t tell lies, but stretch the truth sometime while havling fun of revieling old times as we know it. Not everyone who comes actually drink coffee but bring their own drinks, water, and have a few snacks and socialize. It’s called klatching by the old german standard. How else can one find the latest goings on in the community and history of whatever comes to mind while we grew up in Nordheim. It’s surprising how much you can learn from individuals who have lived in this place.

A lot of us old timers are sad to see the old Highway 72 torn up and hauled away while a new highway takes it’s place. One prediction came out the other day that said that by 2050, Texas will have more population than California and New York combined. If that’s true, where will all the open spaces be? No wonder there is a lot of thinking of going to the moon. Who knows what will happen in the next 26 years? See you next week.
