Body

Jerome William Dreyer passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at his home. He was born on July 14, 1953 in Cuero to the late Rosalie Kaufman and Gideon Dreyer. After graduating from Cuero High School in 1971, Jerry enlisted in the Texas National Guard. He also followed in his father's footsteps and became a mechanic. Later, he was employed by the City of Cuero Fire Department for twenty-eight years as a firefighter. Jerry made it only one day into retirement before going to work for DeWitt County Sheriff's Department as a jailer for seven years. It always amazed the kids at the endless and variety of jobs Jerry had worked. He loved owning a small engine repair shop and a fencing business, which were just a few of his entrepreneurial accomplishments. Jerry also volunteered numerous hours as the President of the Cuero Sportsman Club, was a member of Hermann Sons, and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. His love for raising dogs led to one of his greatest achievements when Sam, his labrador retriever, actually won three ribbons. Jerry's main interest this year had been raising his goats. He watched countless videos learning how to milk the goats, as he had plans to make goat soap and cheese. Jerry, unfortunately, never got to milk one.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Dorothy Friedrick and Rose Rath. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Susie Dreyer; sister, Mary Ann Goertz; and children, Robert Tracy Fox (Jessica Rudd), Matthew Fox (Kathy McBroom), Taryn Shukla (Alok Shukla); and grandchildren, Richard Marriott, Kennedy Marriott, Makenna Fox, Meredith Fox, Madison Fox, Major Fox, Marshall Fox, and Mack Fox.

Jerry's joys were his grandkids, raising dogs, and goats. He loved baking cookies with the girls and helping the boys fish. He was the designated driving instructor for the grandkids, as he was laid back and just took it all in stride.

He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Carol Dippel (Brian), Lori Kolle (Dennis), Billy Friederick, Chris Rath (Debbie), Lisa Atkinson (Kurt), and Molly Lowers (Tom).Jerry had numerous nieces and nephews that loved coming to the farm and fish with him. He loved all of them dearly.

Jerry will be greatly missed. He and Susie did everything together. They enjoyed the family and the farm. If you know Jerry well, you know he always had something funny going on. He brought lots of joy and laughter to his family. Jerry will be greatly missed and would want us to all remember the jokes and laughs we had with him.

Visitation will begin at 9 am on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Freund Funeral Home with a rosary beginning at 10 am. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Chris Rath, Billy Friederick, Paul Hahn, Chris Smith, Johnny Varela, and Brian Dippel. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
