Otto Lee Koenning, 83, of Cuero passed away Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017. He was born Jan. 24, 1934 to the late Otto F. Koenning and Ida Koehler Koenning. Otto married Delores Lewis on Dec. 25, 1993 in Corpus Christi. He served his country during the Korean War in the Army. Otto was a rancher, beer distributor with Lone Star beer in Cuero, Yorktown, Westhoff, and Nixon, and propane/ butane distributor where he retired after 25 years. Otto and Delores loved to dance together and it was often said that “he could waltz better than he could walk.”
Otto is survived by his wife of 23 years, Delores Lewis Koenning; daughter, Rhonda Koenning Griffin and friend, William Jendrzey, of Inez; sister, Margie Dickerson of Katy; grandchildren, Stephanie Charbula and husband, Craig, of Inez, Brianna Masterson and husband, Joseph, of The Woodlands, Kaylyn Moehrig and husband, Jacob, of San Antonio; two step-grandchildren, Brandy Lusk of New York, New York and Shane Sutton of Oklahoma; five great grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; three nieces and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Phyllis Farley Koenning.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. at Freund Funeral Home with Pastor William Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Westhoff Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Roy Allen Koenning, Darwin Koenning, Craig Charbula, Denis Mueller, Gary Lewis, David Baros, and Kevin Koenning.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lindenau and The American Legion.
