Phil Johnson, 86, of Stratton, passed away Thursday, Oct. 7, surrounded by his girls. He was born Apr. 9, 1935 in San Antonio to the late Ruth Tarver Johnson and Phil Johnson Sr. Phil married Beverly Parker on May 31, 1964, in San Antonio. He served in the US Army 1st Calvary at Fort Hood and was the second-fastest quick draw in the state of Texas. Phil was a restaurant owner/caterer/chef, an elevator constructor, a greeter, and an all-around handyman. He loved hunting, fishing, and gardening; and was an antique picker, especially fond of uranium glass.
Phil is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Beverly Johnson of Stratton; daughters, Carey (David) Ferris of Kerrville and Missi (Rick) Risinger of Vernon; and grandchildren, Justin (Katie) Tenery of Kerrville, Tamara (Jaiman) Yarbrough of Kerrville, Angie Bourland of Lubbock, Cody Risinger of Altus, OK, Willem Ferris of Austin, and David Reed Ferris of Kerrville. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Evelyn Sue Lang.
Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 10, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be Monday, Oct. 11, 10 a.m., at Primitive Baptist Church with Pastor Jeb Owen officiating.
Pallbearers include Justin Tenery, Jacob Medina, Alan Irwin, Larry Jirkovsky, Jimmy Parr, Sebastian Ramirez, Noe Medina, and Jim Parker with honorary pallbearers, Johnny Thompson, Craig Seekamp, and Hugh Myers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Primitive Baptist Church.
