Robert Paul Bales, 69, passed away on Feb. 25, 2020, at Port Lavaca Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Port Lavaca, Texas after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born on Jan. 4, 1951, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston, he was the son of Parman Bales and Marie Nevins Bales.
Mr. Bales attended Annunciation Elementary School, St. Thomas High School and the University of St. Thomas in Houston for his Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees. He worked processing seismic data for Teledyne Exploration, Birdwell and Barnsdall, and taught in Royal, Sealy, Moulton, Fort Bend, and Lamar School Districts.
He loved to travel and visited many friends and places across the country and overseas.
He is survived by his wife Gloria Junek Bales, his sons Aaron and Nicholas, and his grandchildren Aiden, Haley and Caleb. He is also survived by his brother John Bales of Bedford, Texas, and his sisters Kathy Contello of Baytown, Texas, and Carole Meibert of Gold River, California.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Port Lavaca on March 12, at 10:30 a.m. preceded by a short visitation and rosary from 9:30 to 10:30. Interment will be at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Blessing, Texas following the Mass.
