William Alfred Wendel

William Alfred Wendel passed away peacefully on November 28, 2023. He was born on February 17, 1938, in Alice to Halley William and Esther Natalia Wilhemina Mathilde Dreier Wendel. William lived a life filled with honor, commitment, and devotion. He served his country with great pride and dedication as a member of the United States Marine Corps. He enlisted in 1957 and faithfully served until his honorable discharge in 1960, achieving the rank of Lance Corporal. The values instilled in him during his time in the Marines shaped the man he would become.

Following his military service, William began his career working as a security guard for Wackenhut Security in Las Vegas, Nevada. He served his role for an impressive 25 years before retiring. His commitment to keeping others safe and protected was evident in every aspect of his work. He married Naomi Bellen on March 11, 1960, in Las Vegas, NV. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on love, laughter, and cherished memories. William had a special bond with his children, Beverly, Debra and Craig. They were raised with love and unwavering support, always ensuring they had the tools to navigate life's challenges. He treasured the moments spent together, creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter.

William is survived by his loving daughters, Beverly Wendel and Debra Mercer, both of Las Vegas, NV; his devoted son, Craig King of Mission, TX; sister, Mona Fay Knetig of Robstown; step-sister, Sylvia Ramsey; brother, Halley Boyd Wendel of Victoria; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 11, 2024, 1:00 PM, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Meyersville. The funeral service with military honors, a tribute to his service in the United States Marine Corps, will follow at 2:00 PM.
