This past 2021 football season the Wildcat football team concluded with an 8-3 overall record with a 5-1 district record. After the pads, helmets, and jerseys had been tucked away for next season, there was some time for reflection on the season and its accomplishments. While looking back athletic director, Coach Caffey, was intrigued to learn that the record of total points earned in a season was now held by his 21-22 team. Throughout Yorktown history, the football team has advanced to regionals five times, with the 1991 team advancing even one round further. The Wildcats fell short of regionals by one round this year, however, it did not stop them from breaking many Yorktown records.  Not advancing as far, resulted in them playing fewer games, however impressively they were able to obtain the team record for the most offensive points in a season.  This year’s team totaled 511 points, shattering the previous 1991 record of 442. The 1991 team was coached by Tommy Bludau and ended with a 10-4 record. The ‘91 team also holds the most wins in a season record, however, it has since been tied by the 2004 (10-3) squad coached by Rusty Buzzard. The 2021 Wildcats recorded an impressive 4,980 total yards of offense.

The Wildcat’s explosive offense had Drew Alexander at the helm, with him looking to connect with star receiver Kalen Barefield. Barefield averaged 106.6 receiving yards per game, 20.0 yards per reception, and totaled 1279 receiving yards. Barefield’s longest reception was 64 yards. The passing offense also utilized key player DeQuan Clay.  He averaged 75.3 receiving yards per game, 20.7 yards per reception, and totaled 828 receiving yards.
