Five athletes will represent Cuero High School at next weekend’s state track and field meet in Austin. Senior Davyon Williams won regionals in high jump by clearing six feet and eight inches. He will be joined by Mackenzie Blain, who placed second in pole vault, clearing 10 feet and three inches. Blain is also part of the 800 meter relay team with Loren Washington, Ibree Coe and Ricquel Joubert, who finished in second at regionals in one minutes and 45.5 seconds and will advance to state. They will compete at state on Thursday, May 6.
Two boys relays, the 400 and 800, narrowly missed state qualification, as both finished third at regionals. The 400 relay finished in 43.52 seconds, only .11 seconds behind Stafford, while their 800 relay also finished just behind Stafford, 1:29.7 to their 1:29.3.
Beau Fournet and Brooke Wendel also placed third in their events and were hoping for potential wild card spots to state. Fournet crossed the line in 15.07 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles, only .14 seconds behind Aiden Chalk of Ingleside.
