6 CHS seniors named to TGCA Cheerleading Academic All-State team

In their final year at Cuero High School, the mother and daughter duo of Deborah Pedraza and Kendall Van Slooten are making sure to leave their mark. Van Slooten, who will graduate in May, was recently the first Cuero cheerleader to be a Legacy All-Star selection, while Pedraza had six seniors, including Van Slooten, named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) 2018-19 Cheerleading Academic All-State team.

“I was really surprised, and it was a great honor to be selected,” Van Slooten said. “We’ve all worked really hard, so I was real surprised to be one to get it.”

With so many talented cheerleaders who have come before and cheered alongside Van Slooten, to be the first honoree for CHS was truly an honor.

“It was really nice, because it’s crazy to think no one’s ever gotten it before,” Van Slooten said.
