The Cuero Record

The Cuero High School boys and girls varsity track team attended the Hallettsville Brahma Relays Wednesday, March 16. With a total of 20 teams competing, the girls would place fourth overall, while the boys came in seventh. “With it being spring break we weren’t able to take full squads,” head track and field coach Bryan Hood noted. “The meet was varsity only, so this allowed us to bring up some JV kids and have them compete at a higher level. We were able to see improvements in our kids in several areas,” Hood stated.

The Lady Gobblers finished the meet with 54 total points, falling one point short of third place behind La Grange (55). Goliad (123.5) and Yoakum (82), would finish first and second. Paisley Janssen was the high point girl for Cuero, netting 13 total points. Janssen placed first overall in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet 2 inches and placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles. Emery Wesley placed first in the shot put, out-throwing her nearest competition by more than one foot and some change.

The Gobblers would finish the meet with 33 total points. Senior, Braidon Mathis, finished the meet with 14 points, earning him Cuero’s high point boy. Mathis placed in four different events, his results will be listed below. Mason Notaro placed in both the 100 meter and 300-meter hurdles, finishing second and third in each.

With two more meets remaining before the district meet on April 12-13, Coach Hood is looking for his distance runners to take a leap over the next few meets.
