Summer break took a backseat in June for the Lady Lynx girls basketball team. As part of the Victoria Girls Black and White League, the Lady Lynx were the champion team, losing only one game. Coach Darrien Campbell, Destiny Longoria 12, Brilye Campbell,11, and Braleigh Doddz,11, were able to take a moment away from their victory celebration to talk about their time on the team.

Unable to attend the interview, but still a large part of the team were Abbi Klein, Nina Villarreal, Malaysia Thomas, Kieyah Garcia, and Audrena Hernandez.

Beginning as a family based team, Coach Campbell explained that the idea for joining the Victoria-based league came after talking with her younger cousins, Doddz, Campbell, and Longoria. Coach Campbell stated that a few of the girls on the team had played basketball together before, recruiting friends and family members from Cuero, Goliad and Nordheim to fill the team.

“It just kind of fell into place,” said Coach Campbell of the Lady Lynx team.
