Friday, Aug. 26, the Yorktown football team faced the Wallis Brazos Cougars in a home matchup.  The season opener ended in a 21-55 loss. Yorktown won the coin flip, choosing to defer and giving Wallis Brazos the first jab at scoring.  The Cougars took advantage entering the end zone and putting seven points on the scoreboard. A Wildcat defensive player made a tackle near the line of scrimmage during the first play. However, during their second attempt, the Cougars rushed and ended up in a third and three situation.  Next, they came up short of a first down by a yard. In a fourth and one situation, a quarterback keeper play got the first down for the visiting team on the 44-yard line. At 9:20, they passed the ball down the right side of the field for a 51-yard touchdown. During the Wildcats first series, Aidan Joe was tripped after gaining a yard. The Wildcats then had a false start. A quarterback keeper by Jayden Rodriguez put the Wildcats in a 3 and 13 situation.  They tackled the quarterback again on a keeper play forcing the Wildcats to punt. The first quarter would conclude 0-7.

At halftime, the Wildcats were trailing 7-28. Sophomore Cameron Willis would score the Wildcats first touchdown of the season and his first varsity touchdown on a two-yard run with 7:21 left in the second period to tie the game. Unfortunately, with 6:24 left in the quarter, the Cougars would find the end zone to take the lead back, 7-14. A fumble by the Wildcats would give the Cougars good field position. They would take advantage, scoring again on a two-yard run, 7-21. Late in the period, the Wildcats were unsuccessful in going for it on fourth down therefore turning the ball over on downs to the Cougars. Wallis Brazos would punch it in with 10 seconds remaining on the clock, 7-28.
