Playing their first district home game of the season, the Cuero Lady Gobblers stormed out to an impressive first half and never looked back, en route to their second win in as many district contests, 51-32 over Somerset.
“We started fast, and we talked about it before the game,” head coach Amy Crain said following the win. “We knew they [Somerset] were going to be scrappy and just physical, so I challenged them to step up to that and have high energy and just start fast.”
The energy went down a little to start the second half, as Cuero was held to eight points in the third quarter.
“I think coming out of the locker room, we were a little flat,” Crain recalled. “We missed some easy shots. I don’t think it was a lack of focus. I just think our shots didn’t fall. We got back on track and finished the game strong.”
