For the first time since 2015, Nordheim High School will have an athlete at the UIL state track & field championships. After narrowly missing qualifying as a freshman and losing last season because of covid, Danielle Wilson will compete at the state meet this Saturday, May 8 at the University of Texas at Austin’s Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Six years ago, Daija Williams and Emily Jennings were the last Pirates to reach state, Williams in the 100 and 200 and Jennings in shot put. Wilson will be there for discus after finishing second at regionals.

“It’s pretty exciting,” Wilson said. “Since I missed last year, I was kinda disappointed about that, so I was really hoping that I could make it this year.”

“I’m not really nervous,” she added. “I’m just excited to see how everything happens there.”
