The Cuero Record

It was a weekend full of competing as 13 Cuero athletes made the trip to Kingsville for the Region IV-Regional Track Meet. The top two competitors in each event would clinch a trip to the State Meet that will be held in Austin on May 12-14.

Getting things rolling on Friday, the first athlete to compete was Abbey Dreier in the pole vault. Dreier would top out at 10’-9” good for a fourth-place finish.

Exavier Durham was the second athlete on the day as he competed in the triple jump. Durham would make it to the finals and finished seventh with his longest jump coming in at 42 feet even. Durham also competed in the high jump, but could not make it to the finals.

Moving on to running prelims, the boys 4x100 meter relay team of Donavin Jones, Lebron Johnson, Justice Belvin and Justin Banda cruised to the #1 seed after a first-place finish with a time of 42.674. They would follow up with taking third in finals, just missing an automatic bid to state.

The boys 4x200 relay team of Belvin, Braidon Mathis, Johnson and Banda placed second overall in prelims good for the #2 seed. That same crew ran in the 4x200 relay finals taking second place, putting a stamp on a trip to state for the all senior crew.

Cuero’s 4x400 meter relay team of Mason Notaro, Jones, Banda and Mathis placed seventh in their heat. They would not move on to the finals, ending a great season.
