The Cuero Record

The Cuero Gobblers have a lot of momentum going forward this week as they celebrate their win against the Wimberley Texans. Finishing the game 36-26 the Gobblers will be advancing to the fourth round of playoffs. While fans of the Cuero football team had faith in their ability to win this game, there was a lot of uncertainty leading up to kick-off. Previously Wimberley lost 21-3 when these two teams faced off in the regular season. Looking for a chance to redeem themselves they were left disappointed.

Friday afternoon was a back-and-forth game as these two teams scored one after the other, never allowing a team to make two touchdowns in a row during the first half. In this kind of game, it is a fight to the very end, something the Gobblers have not had to deal with much this season. Defensively the Gobblers were able to make stops where they needed to which allowed the offense more opportunities to make touchdowns and increase their lead over the Texans.

Highlighting his thoughts on the overall performance is head coach Jack Alvarez saying. “Well after analyzing the first game we knew they should have scored two or three times more, but we felt like we should have scored two or three times more than the first game. It was a battle, we knew it was going to be a physical game and we get to keep playing. That’s the best thing I can say about this group–great group of kids, playmakers, o-line and defense. Hats off to our defense. Bend, don’t break and then make a play when you got to. I’m excited for our kids I’m excited to get to keep working.”
