There is nothing quite like bringing home some UIL hardware. At last Thursday’s UIL Conference 4A State Meet, Cuero would double up on the bronze medal in both events the Gobbler athletes qualified for.

The environment at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin is second to none. The electrifying crowd can create some nervousness, but the adrenaline rush tends to bring out the best in every athlete competing.

Out of the blocks first was Lebron Johnson in the all-out 100-meter dash state final. In a field full of the fastest nine athletes across the state of Texas at the 4A level, Johnson continued to do what he has done all track season. Johnson, running in lane one, finished his final individual event in a Gobbler uniform taking home third place. Lebron finished the race setting a new personal best and fastest time on the year, 10.49 seconds. Johnson, neck and neck with Gilmer’s Will Henderson who took home second with a time of 10.48 seconds, was the competitive finish you would expect at the granddaddy of them all.

“I feel good, I feel like I could have got second,” stated Johnson after the down to the wire 100-meter dash.

Following the 100, Johnson had a quick 25-minute breather as he turned his focus to the 4x200 meter relay with his teammates.
