The Cuero Record

It’s been an up and down season for the Cuero Gobbler baseball team. With the regular season now in the rear-view mirror, every game form here on out is do or die.

The Gobblers had two matchups last week with the Gonzales Apaches, finishing out the district slate. Facing the rival at home last Wednesday on parents/senior night, it was Jerry Rossett who made his last game at home a memorable one. Rossett would go on to pitch a complete game striking out five Apache batters, and earning the win. “[Jerry] had a heckuva game. Tonight for senior night he definitely came out and showed everyone what he has. On the mound, he was up there dealing. He had a couple tough at-bats with batters there later in the innings, but he kept battling," acknowledged head coach Colby Mica.

In the batter's box Rossett went 3-3 with three singles on the evening. He also scored two runs, swiped two bases, and drove in a run.

“We just have to get better, and build on this,” noted Rossett. “This was one of my best hitting nights in a while. I kept my eye on the ball and just hit it.”

Rossett would get helped out from his offense early when they supplied him with a five-run bottom half of the second inning. Senior Dylan Mills scored the first run of the game on a triple off the bat of William Carbonara to get things started. Rossett plated Carbonara on an RBI single the very next batter, and the momentum only continued. Bishop Whitt would single, William Davis worked a walk that loaded the bases for freshman Caleb Nagel. Back-to-back RBI singles from Nagel and Jacob Baker worked the Gobbler lead up to 4-0. They would grab one more run on a passed ball that scored Davis, capping the five-run inning.
