The Cuero Varsity and JV track teams competed in the District 27-4A meet last week. The top 4 Varsity finishers in each event would qualify for the Area meet that is this Wednesday, April 20, at Gobbler Stadium. A total of 25 athletes would qualify: LeBron Johnson, Braidon Mathis, Mason Notaro, Justice Belvin, Donavin Jones, Justin Banda, Jerry Rossett, Dayson Varela, Kyle Weghorst, AJ Arroyo, Exavier Durham, Barrett Smith, Jacob Keller, Ricquel Joubert, Mauricinae Walker, Mauriana Dasilva, Taryn Gayle, Cydine Johnson, Caitlyn Comiskey, Ti’Kiya Morris, Madalyne Kroos, Emery Wesley, Alliyah Farris, Paisley Jannsen and Abbey Dreier.

As a team, Cuero varsity boys would finish third overall with 131 points, six points shy of second. The first-place winner was La Vernia (198 points). As for the girls' varsity team, they would finish third overall with 111 points behind Navarro (210 points), and La Vernia (169 points). JV boys finished fourth with 62 points, and JV girls finished fifth with 54 points.

Johnson - 100m dash (1st, 10.62), Mathis - 400m dash (4th, 52.368) - Triple Jump (3rd, 43’-1 1/2”), Notaro - 110m hurdles (4th, 16.9) - 300m hurdles (4th, 42.38), Varela - Long jump (2nd, 20’-8 1/2”), Weghorst - Shot Put (2nd, 45’-0”) - Discus (5th, 119’-5”), Arroyo - Discus (4th, 120’-8”), Durham - Triple Jump (2nd, 43’-3 1/4”) - High Jump (1st, 5’-11”), Smith - Pole Vault (4th, 9’-6”), Keller - Pole Vault (4th, 9’-6”) Relays: 4x100 (1st, 43.256, Mathis, Johnson, Belvin, Jones), 4x200 (1st, 1:30.029, Belvin, Varela, Johnson, Banda), 4x400 (2nd, 3:35.46, Notaro, Rossett, Banda, Mathis).
