Gobblers ready for district

The Cuero Record
Last Thursday’s Gobbler Relays, the first in some time not on a Saturday, provided Cuero with their final tuneup before this week’s district meet. Apart from simply getting another meet under their belts, several individual performers led the charge for Cuero.
Senior high jumper Davyon Williams and senior long distance runner Brooke Wendel were at the top of that list. Wendel won the 800 meter run in two minutes and 25 seconds before heading straight to the Cuero Chamber of Commerce’s annual membership banquet, where she was then awarded their Citizen of Tomorrow award.
Meanwhile, Williams easily won high jump with a jump of six feet and six inches. Instead of gradually increasing on his attempts, he went straight to 6-11, looking to break Will Littleton’s school record.
“I just wanted to break the record,” Williams said. “It’s 6-10. I thought it was 6-10.5. If I would’ve knew that, I would’ve done 6-10.5. I’m trying to get 6-11, then after that’s one inch to seven foot, so I’ll be good.”
