With a playoff spot already secure heading into last Friday night’s rivalry game with Gonzales, Jackson Hardwick and Cuero’s seniors were looking to leave a lasting impression during their final game at Gobbler Stadium. Scoring early and often, the class of 2021 are leading the Gobblers into the postseason following a 56-7 win over the Apaches.
“We just got our mindset ready for the last home game to just play at Gobbler Stadium and get a W and get ready for playoffs,” Hardwick said after the game.
It only took Cuero 46 seconds to open the scoring. Hardwick scored his first of three touchdowns on a 24-yard scamper to complete an opening 53-yard drive. Before the first quarter was over, the Gobbler offense had found the endzone four more times. Jerry Rossett threw three touchdown passes, one apiece to Hardwick, Lebron Johnson and Breck Eleby. Hardwick also added a two-yard rushing score in the final minute of the opening quarter.
On the defensive side, the Gobblers only allowed 158 total yards, while the Apaches were held to negative five rushing yards.
