All-District and Academic All-District selections were announced recently for District 27-4A. The Cuero Gobbler baseball team finished their season after making a bi-district appearance and posting an overall record of 8-19. The Gobblers’ district record of 2-4, was good for the third seed in a four-team district. A total of seven of those games were decided by two runs or less. Three Gobblers found their names on the first-team all-district team. one landed second-team honors, while four others received honorable mention. Twelve Gobblers would land on the Academic All-District team with two seniors, Dylan Mills and William Davis, making the second-team Academic All-State team.

1st Team All-District

Senior Jerry Rossett capped his last season in a Gobbler uniform by yielding first-team pitching honors. Appearing in five district contests, Rossett pitched in a total of three games. He gave the Gobblers a solid 10 2/3 innings of work and compiled a superb 1.97 ERA while striking out a total of nine batters. At the plate, Rossett put together a .385 batting average to pair with his .429 on-base percentage. Junior Jacob Baker also earned first-team honors after manning down second base. Through six district games, Baker slashed a .316 batting average. He had six base hits, driving in three runs while scoring a total of six times. Sophomore Brandt Patek rounded out the first team nominations as a catcher. Patek led the Gobblers in slugging percentage (.600). He went on to hit two home runs with five RBIs, he played a critical role behind the dish catching in all the Gobblers district games.
