Cuero will look to secure their third consecutive undefeated district title Friday night, when they close the regular season in Wimberley. The Gobblers and Texans will meet for the third straight year and first time in district since 1995, when Cuero won, 71-14. Wimberley, though, defeated Cuero last season in the state quarterfinals, 44-36, en route to their first state semifinal appearance since winning a state title in 2011. Overall the series is tied at five wins apiece with Cuero last winning during the 2016 regional semifinals, 28-7.
“We have tremendous respect for them,” Cuero coach Travis Reeve said of the Texans. “They have a great program, and we’re going to have to continue to play well. I know that they’re going to play exceptionally well at home. We have a big challenge ahead of us, and we’re looking forward to it.”
