Last Friday night, your Cuero Fightin’ Gobblers took to the road and made it 2-0 to start the season with a resounding victory over the Navarro Panthers.

The stat line showed the Gobblers’ dominance scorching the Panthers with 300 yards in the air, while the Navarro could only manage 30-yards passing. And the Mean Green put up twenty-four first downs while Navarro had only eight the entire game.

Cuero scored in the first quarter with a four-play, 25-yard drive, ending with a 7-yard pass from Mason Notaro to Kenneth Jackson. That would be Jackson’s lone catch and touchdown, but he also finished the game with 52-yards rushing on ten carries.  Notaro was 19 for 32 with 300 yards passing, two picks and five touchdown passes.

The Gobblers made it 14-0 in the second quarter with a 60-yard, seven play drive highlighted by a 46-yard touchdown pass from Notaro to Day’ton Varela, who finished the game with two catches for 57-yards and a 26-yard kick-off return.

Cuero’s defense was powerful once again. Even though Navarro had an edge in time of possession, their offense could only score once, a 92-yard kick-off return in the third quarter. That would be their only score of the evening. The Gobblers forced three fumbles and recovered two of them.

The Gobblers scored once in the third quarter on an 11-play, 65-yard drive, when Daylon Gibbs caught an 18-yard pass from Mason Notaro for the score. Gibbs had himself a night, finishing with eight catches for 108-yards and two touchdowns.

Cuero scored two more times in the fourth quarter on a 49-yard pass from Notaro to Travis Seals, who would finish the night with one catch for 49-yards, while adding 14-yards on the ground with six carries. They then completed a three-play, 34-yard drive with Daylon Gibbs catching a 2-yard pass from Notaro for the final score.

This was a great team victory for The Mean Green. Kicker Jimmy Mejia was a perfect 5-5 on extra point attempts. Kenneth Jackson, rushed for 52-yards and Jaxxon Marie added 38-yards on the ground.  Notaro put on an air show, spreading the wealth to his talented recievers. Walker Dietze caught 4 passes for 41-yards, Tyran Gamez, 2 catches for 25-yards and Nate Luschen added one catch for 13-yards.

Cuero is at home this week, taking on the Yoakum Bulldogs this Friday at Gobbler Stadium at 7:30 p.m.  GO MEAN GREEN!
