For the first time in five weeks, Cuero will hit the road, as they are set to take on the Giddings Buffaloes this Friday night in their second district matchup.
The Gobblers last faced Giddings during Cuero’s semifinal run in 2015. Cuero lost that non-district contest, 45-16. It marked their fourth straight season facing each other dating back to 2012, when Giddings won a district matchup, 41-28. Cuero won in 2013 (24-20 in district) and 2014 (62-31 in non-district).
Giddings enters this year’s meeting with a record of 4-2 and 1-0 in district after defeating Gonzales last week, 47-31. They opened the season with a 34-31 loss against Bellville before three straight wins over Columbus (33-28), Taylor (46-12) and Caldwell (50-14). The Buffaloes rounded out non-district against the one team both them and Cuero have faced this season to this point, Navarro. While Cuero came out with their first win of the season against the Panthers (42-21), Navarro took the win over Giddings (21-17).
Through six games this season, Giddings leans on the run game a little more, as they have averaged 194 yards per game on the ground with 135 coming through the air. Three Buffalo running backs have surpassed the century mark on the ground, so far: Bryan Zoch (178 yards), Cody Gill (174) and Gage Jaehne (146).
