'Just play basketball'
By Robert Proctor
In the absence of Emagen Styra, who’s out with an injury, senior Celeste Smith put the Lady Pirates on her back offensively during last week’s game against Louise. An 11 point halftime lead quickly dissipated early in the third quarter, but key threes by Smith down the stretch and timely defense allowed Nordheim to earn the win, 41-35.
“I think some girls just had to step in tonight for some injuries,” coach Randy Castillo said. “It just kind of slowed our offense down. We had to put people in a new spot, a new role.”
Paisley Perez was the lone post player most of the night, and only one player was available off the Nordheim bench. Those who were on the floor saw even more game action than usual.
“When you’re on the court, you gotta play,” Castillo said. “Our offense just wasn’t clicking. We started off kind of slow, kind of hesitant about what we’re supposed to do. You just gotta play. I have plays that don’t always work out, but when you’re on the court, you can’t stop playing. We gotta play basketball. Just play basketball.”
