The Yorktown Kitty Kats have had a grueling and taxing last three weeks. Playing in a total of 24 games since Aug. 11, 21 of those games have come in tournament play. A couple of days off were much needed for a team that is just four non-district contests away from starting district play on Sept. 20.

With one game on the schedule this past week, Yorktown traveled to Falls City on Tuesday, Aug. 30.

Starting out in a back-and-forth set, the Kitty Kats looked to have a game on their hands when Falls City kept things close. The Kitty Kats would scratch and claw their way to a 26-24 set one win.

In set two, Yorktown continued to muster up efficiency. They had 11 kills out of 16 attempts, good for a 37.5% attack percentage. In the set, the Kitty Kat defense held the Beavers to just a 14.3% of attacking helping guide them to the set two win 25-21.

In set three, the wheels came off for Falls City as Yorktown continued to take advantage of their mistakes. Yorktown would cruise to a three-set match win after a 25-12 win in set three.

Stat leaders for the win at Falls City include senior Ayana Longoria; 17 digs, 7 aces, and 7 points. Senior Emie Bolting; 15 kills, 16 points. Sophomore Braleigh Dodds; 2 kills, 2 aces, 6 digs, and 4 points. Junior Kendyll Sinast; 14 digs. Sophomore Malayshia Thomas; 7 digs, 1 ace and 2 kills. Sophomore Nina Villarreal; 5 digs, and 3 kills. Senior Juliana Garza; 4 kills.

The Yorktown Kitty Kats now have a record of 13-13 on the year. They will be on the road this Tuesday, Sept. 6, traveling to Palacios. Yorktown will return home Friday, Sept. 9, for a 4:30 p.m. match-up with Ganado.
