Kitty Kats Fall to Luling, Win District Opener

Special to the Yorktown News-View

Last Tuesday, Jan. 7, Yorktown traveled to Luling to play its final non-district game. It was a game of ranked teams, as the Lady Eagles, ranked #24 in Class 3A in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) poll defeated the Kitty Kats, ranked #23 in Class 2A, 64-46.

Junior Katelyn Dodds had 16 points, including three 3-pointers, and seven steals, while junior Kailey Sinast and sophomore Seely Metting contributed nine points apiece.

On Friday, Jan. 10, the Yorktown Kitty Kats began District 29-2A play, making the two-hour bus ride to Wallis to take on the Brazos Cougarettes.

Brazos jumped out to a 15-6 first quarter lead, as Yorktown struggled with sluggish play and foul trouble. In the second quarter, the Kitty Kats woke up and outscored the Cougarettes, 18-5, to take a 24-20 halftime lead.

The third quarter saw more of the same, as Yorktown outscored Brazos, 18-6, to lead 42-26 going into the final period.
