Kitty Kats finish 2022 tournament season

The Yorktown Kitty Kats have been busy over the course of the last two weeks as the volleyball season starts to intensify. On Aug. 19-20 they attended the Sinton Varsity Tournament winning consolation out of the bronze bracket. 

In Friday’s (Aug. 19) action, Yorktown squared off with Sharyland Mission losing in two sets (25-19, 25-16), then followed with a matchup against Robstown losing in a close two sets (25-20, 25-18). Matching up with a much bigger school in Corpus Christi Carroll the Kitty Kats fell in two sets (25-22, 25-12). 

Returning back for day two, the day started with a loss to Mathis (25-15, 25-15). Yorktown would then cross paths with the Odem Lady Owls and would defeat them in two sets 25-22, 25-21. That win was followed up by another win over Corpus Christi West Oso in two sets 25-11, and 25-14 to win consolation in the bronze bracket of the Sinton Tourney. 

Tournament stats included: Senior Emie Bolting tallying 30 kills, 11 aces and five blocks. Sophomore Braleigh Dodds totaled 23 digs, 18 kills while dishing out 22 assists. Fellow sophomore Nina Villarreal added 16 digs to pair with 11 kills. Senior Ayana Longoria had a total of 76 digs and seven aces. Sophomore Malayshia Thomas added 30 assists, 15 digs to go with six aces. Junior Kendyll Sinast added 36 digs, while sophomore Sydnie Krueger totaled eight kills and two blocks. Seniors Jasmine Hernandez added seven digs and five aces, and Juliana Garza with five kills and four digs. 

Yorktown would return home on their home floor last Tuesday, Aug. 23, for a three-set sweep over Faith Family Academy 25-17, 25-20, and 25-20. Dodds was the kill leader with seven, while Bolting added five. Dodds also lead in assists with six. Longoria and Hernandez each added five aces. Longoria led the match in digs with 14, Dodds added 10 while Bolting had seven. Villarreal and Thomas each had six digs bringing the team total to 53.
