The Yorktown Kitty Kats, defending District 31-2A champions, opened up district play last week, traveling to Refugio on Tuesday, Dec. 14, and hosting Kenedy on Dec. 17, coming away with wins in very different manners.

On Tuesday, Yorktown opened up district play in Refugio. The Kitty Kats came out flat and fell behind early, while Refugio was hot from behind the 3-point line, making five three-pointers, to take a 31-24 halftime lead. Yorktown opened the third quarter with a 11-3 run to take their first lead of the game at 35-34. The two teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the third, with Refugio taking a 43-41 lead into the fourth. In the final period, the Kitty Kat defense held the Lady Bobcats to five points, while Yorktown senior Seely Metting scored ten points and Yorktown came away with the 51-48 win. Metting finished with 35 points, seven rebounds and four steals, while juniors Emie Bolting and Dakielynn Campbell added four apiece. Bolting also had five rebounds and freshman Sydnie Krueger had four.

On Friday, Yorktown hosted the Kenedy Leopards. Kenedy took a 1-0 lead early and it was all downhill for the Leopards from there, as the Kitty Kats exploded out to a 35-10 halftime lead.
