Kitty Kats pick up two district wins

The Yorktown Kitty Kat Varsity Volleyball team improved its District 28-2A record to 3-1 with wins at Bloomington and at Refugio this past week.

On Tuesday, Sept. 27, the Kitty Kats traveled to Bloomington and beat the Lady Cats in three games, 25-11, 25-22, 25-22. Senior Emie Bolting had seven kills, while sophomores Braleigh Dodds and Sydnie Krueger had six and five respectively. Dodds and sophomore Malayshia Thomas had 10 assists each. Seniors Ayana Longoria and Jasmine Hernandez had four service aces each. Longoria had 17 digs and junior Kendyll Sinast had 10.

On Friday, Sept. 30, Yorktown traveled to Refugio and defeated the Lady Cats, 24-26, 25-16, 25-7, 25-19. Dodds had 13 kills and Bolting had seven. Thomas had 15 assists while Longoria had six. Thomas’ serving was on point, as she served 21 straight points at one point and finished with 10 aces. Longoria had 19 digs, Dodds had nine and Sinast had eight. Bolting had three blocks.

The Yorktown Kitty Kats (18-16, 3-1) wrap up the first half of district play in Kenedy on Tuesday, Oct. 4. On Friday, Oct. 7, the Kitty Kats will host the Woodsboro Lady Eagles, in the first of five straight district home games.
