Kitty Kats split games, 6-5 record

The Yorktown Kitty Kats played six games this past week, winning three and losing three. On Tuesday, Nov. 30, Yorktown hosted the McMullen County Cowgirls, who came in ranked #5 in the state Class 1A rankings. The Cowgirls jumped out an 18-7 first-quarter lead en route to a 49-36 win over the Kitty Kats. Senior Seely Metting led Yorktown with 23 points, 12 rebounds and four steals. Junior Ayana Longoria had eight points, while junior Dakielynn Campbell had five rebounds.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2–4, the Kitty Kats competed in the Karnes City Invitational Basketball Tournament. In their first game, Yorktown faced off against Class 4A Gonzales, coming away with a hard-fought 41-33 win. Metting had 30 points and six rebounds while Longoria added six points and seven rebounds, before going down with a sprained ankle. In their second game, the Kitty Kats picked up a 60-40 win over the Stockdale Lady Brahmas. Metting had a career-high 37 points, going 11 for 13 from the free-throw line. She also pulled down 17 rebounds to go along with four steals. Junior Kaley Lassmann scored seven points, while Campbell and freshmen Braleigh Dodds and Syndie Krueger had four apiece.

On day two of the tournament, the Kitty Kats first faced off against the Shiner Lady Comanches. It was a back-and-forth game, as Yorktown led at halftime, 17-16, but Shiner pulled away in the second half for a 41-37 win. Metting had 21 points, six rebounds and five steals. Dodds had five points to go along with six rebounds. In the second game of the day, the host Karnes City Lady Badgers were not very hospitable, as they defeated Yorktown, 57-36. Metting had 23 points and eight rebounds, while Campbell added eight points. Junior Emie Bolting pulled down seven rebounds.
