On Tuesday, the Runge Lady Yellowjackets buzzed into Yorktown to face the Kitty Kats on the volleyball court.
The Junior Varsity teams sqaured off first and played a heated game. In two sets, Yorktown would fall to Runge by scores of 25-18 and 25-14. The Kitty Kats Varsity would take the court to avenge their siblings though.
In three sets, the Yorktown Varsity team would sweep the Lady Yellowjackets 25-21, 25-14, and 25-14. The Kitty Kats have played well this year and continue to do so under Coach Irma Gomez. With almost half the team able to return for at least two more seasons, Yorktown’s future is looking bright indeed.
Friday, the Kitty Kats traveled to Pettus to face the War Eagles. While the War Eagles looked to be tough challengers, taking the first set 25-21, that perception would be short-lived. Yorktown regrouped following that set, and went on to win the next three in a row by scores of 25-21, 25-22, and 25-12.
In the next few weeks, Yorktown will be facing Woodsboro, Nordheim, Kenedy, and Refugio. Of these teams, Woodsboro is the only team who seem to have an answer to the Kitty Kats on-court ability, as they defeated Yorktown earlier in the season.
The seniors graduating this year will certainly leave a high standard to live up to. With all Seniors on the team turning in numbers at or above the national average, they have proven themselves a force to be reckoned with.
