The Yorktown Kitty Kats hosted the annual South Texas Showdown this past Thursday, Aug. 11, and Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022, that featured teams from Faith Family, Falls City, Kenedy, Louise, Nixon-Smiley, Victoria St. Joe #2 and Weimar. In round-robin style, each team played each other once. Weimar was the eventual tournament champion, while St. Joe #2 finished in second place. Nixon-Smiley took home third place and Yorktown won the consolation

On Thursday, the host Kitty Kats were not treated very well, as they lost to Nixon-Smiley (22-25, 16-25), St. Joe #2 (25-21, 21-25, 8-15), and Weimar (17-25, 20-25), before managing to defeat Falls City (25-22, 25-20).

On Saturday, the Kitty Kats came roaring back and won all three of their matches, defeating Kenedy (18-25, 25-10, 15-10), Faith Family (25-18, 25-22), and Louise (25-19, 25-8).

Tournament stat leaders for Yorktown were: Kills – Emie Bolting (30), Braleigh Dodds (20); Aces – Braleigh Dodds (14), Kendyll Sinast (14), Ayana Longoria (13); Assists – Malayshia Thomas (35), Braleigh Dodds (21); Blocks – Emie Bolting (20); Digs – Ayana Longoria (81), Kendyll Sinast (35).

Senior Kitty Kats Emie Bolting and Ayana Longoria were named to the All-Tournament team.

Yorktown will be back in action this week, as they travel to Hallettsville on Tuesday to play Sacred Heart, and then will play in the Sinton Tournament, Friday and Saturday.
