Now in her seventh year with Lady Gobbler basketball and sixth as the head coach, Amy Crain has seen first-hand the development. With a focus on fundamentals each season, from the junior high level up, she knows the program is heading in the right direction. With the 2019-2020 season nearly here, another fairly young group of Cuero Lady Gobblers are ready and poised to make their mark.

“I think we’ve made big steps in the right direction,” Crain said. “I’m proud of where we’ve come, but we still have work to do. Our goal is to go deeper in the playoffs always. We’ve won a couple district championships since I’ve been here. I’d like to consistently compete for that.”

Though the competition of basketball with a focus on winning stands out, there is still an emphasis on having fun and enjoying the game. A portion of potential success could even be credited to having fun.

“They have a passion for it, which is nice to see as a coach,” Crain said. “You get more competitive practices when the kids are bought in at all levels."
