Another long layoff between games led to a slow start for Cuero’s Lady Gobblers in their final non-district game last week against the Victoria-St Joseph Lady Flyers. A lackluster offensive start was countered with superb defensive play, resulting in Cuero’s 14th win of the season, 47-18. “We hadn’t played in awhile,” Cuero coach Amy Crain noted. “We had our tournament last Saturday [Dec. 29]. We had almost a full week of no games, although we practiced. I think we were just a little sluggish. They were ready to play. Offensively, it took us awhile to get going. That happens when you haven’t played in a little bit. We kind of got out of our routine throughout the holidays.”
