A rivalry match may have been the perfect tune-up for Cuero, as they near the start of their 2019 district campaign. The Lady Gobblers overcame two hard-fought sets on the way to a straight sets win in Yoakum last Tuesday, Sept. 3 (27-25, 25-20, 25-19).
“I think it meant a lot,” junior Clayre Pullin said after the win. “The whole team came in with a lot of energy. We had the same energy the whole game and never let down.”
Cuero coach Misty Fletcher echoed Pullin’s comments playing at a high tempo and energy level for the duration of the match.
“There was no point tonight where I questioned the support from the bench and the working together,” Fletcher said.
“On the court, they definitely stayed calm in situations and got that mental edge.”
Fletcher’s first experience of a rivalry game as Cuero’s coach lived up to the expectations. “It was fun,” she said. “I was looking forward to it. The girls were looking forward to it. They definitely responded really well as a team.”
