The Cuero Record

It has been a season full of growth, learning, and many positives for the future of the Lady Gobbler softball program. Out of the 16 girls on the playoff roster, there is just one senior, catcher McKayla Ybarra.

Cuero would get the week started last Tuesday when they traveled to Marion to face the La Vernia Lady Bears in a pivotal second place seeding game. In a hole early, La Vernia would strike for 11 runs in the first three innings. Camdyn Lange and Camdyn Apodackis would each hit solo homers in the second inning, but the Lady Bears' lead was too much. Carly Pullin and Kennedy Garza would each add RBI singles as that rounded out the Lady Gobbler offense on the night. After the 14-4 loss, Cuero was slotted in as the #3 seed out of District 27-4A for the playoffs. They would draw a best of three Bi-District matchups with the Fredericksburg Lady Billies that was played in Jourdanton.

In-game one, the Lady Gobblers showed a ton of fight. Down 4-0 in the fourth, Cuero got a run on an Apodackis RBI single that scored Kendal Broll. Carly Pullin’s three straight scoreless innings on the mound kept the Lady Gobblers within striking distance. Garza would cross the plate for another run in the sixth making it 4-2. In the top of the seventh, the Battling Billies would strike for two insurance runs, making it 6-2. Down to their last at-bats, a Lady Gobbler’s rally would start to brew. Leading things off Audrey Kremling worked a walk followed by a Ybarra single. They would move up 60 feet after a passed ball.
