Lady Pirates win Area
By Roger Cowan
This past Thursday night, the Nordheim Lady Pirates continued their winning ways, taking the Area Championship win over the Buckholts Badgers in Gonzales, winning three sets to one.
In the first set, the Badgers came on strong and defeated the Lady Pirates 25-22. Though they started strong, the Badgers appeared to quickly gas out. After taking the first set, they would drop the following two sets to the Lady Pirates by scores of 25-19 and 25-17.
Going into the fourth and final set, the Lady Pirates were visibly electrified and ready to seal the win. As they served to start the set, they never looked back. Running into the double digits before the Badgers ever gained a single point, the Lady Pirates would cap off their night by winning the fourth set by an extremely decisive 25-6. A statement was definitely made.
With their win over Buckholts, the Lady Pirates move on to the Regional Quarterfinals where they faced the Round Top-Carmine Cubs on Monday, November 5, at Yoakum high school. The winner of that match will move along to the Regional Semifinals on November 9. From there, the winner will advance to the Regional Finals on November 10, leading to the State Semifinals and Championship games on November 14 and 15 in Garland.
Though the November 5 game took place after press time, be sure to visit the News-View Facebook page for the score and highlights from the evening. The News-View staff would like to congratulate the Lady Pirates on their success this year and wish them continued success not only this season, but throughout their life in all they seek to pursue.
