Although last year’s basketball seasons ended early for both the Nordheim Pirates and Lady Pirates, a vast group of returners have coaches Carlton Williams and Randy Castillo confident heading into this season. Both teams start next week. The Lady Pirates missed the playoffs last season, but with some new roles, they look to find success during the 2019-2020 season.

“We’re gonna take on some new attitude, and I think we’re going to be successful,” Castillo said. “We’re going to implement some new things. Last year, what we did didn’t get it done. Obviously, we have to do something different. We can’t do the same thing we did last year.” That’ll start with the implementation of new defensive game plans. Coaching this same group of girls in volleyball could be beneficial, too.

“I think that us having success in volleyball and being competitive and wanting to win trickles over into them being competitors and going to the playoffs,” Castillo said.

Still a young team without any seniors, the Lady Pirates will lean on five returners, including several juniors with playoff experience as freshmen.
