For the love of basketball and each other

From Cuero Little Dribblers through Lady Gobbler varsity basketball, coach Amy Crain and her daughter, Katie, have built a special bond which has only grown through their mutual love for basketball. As Katie’s senior year draws to a close, it seemed appropriate to reflect on the mother/daughter and coach/player relationship.

“It’s pretty special, and it’s been a special time for us,” Amy said.

Amy started coaching for Cuero ISD as the seventh grade girls coach four years ago when Katie was in eighth grade, but they’re player/coach journey started well before that. Amy started as a parent coach for Katie in Little League, soccer and Little Dribblers.

“When I first started, I didn’t know what to expect from school sports, because I hadn’t done it before,” Amy said. “As far as coaching her, I don’t know that I really changed anything from how I coached her in Little League and Little Dribblers.”
