Parent’s night brings win for Lady Pirates

Needing a win to put themselves in position to continue their playoff push, the Nordheim Lady Pirates and never looked back during last Tuesday night’s district contest against Bruni. Emagen Styra was a force in the post, while Celeste Smith showcased her defense, as Nordheim improved to 3-3 in district on parent’s night with the win, 46-27.
After only scoring six points in the opening quarter, Nordheim surged for 29 points over the next two quarters. “It was extremely big,” coach Randy Castillo said after the game.
“Our season was on the line right here. If we would’ve dropped this one, we probably could’ve kissed our season goodbye, and our playoff hopes go out the window. The girls knew what we were playing for.”
Castillo was pleased with his team’s poise on both ends of the court throughout the game, knowing the pressure that was on them in needing to get the win.
“I thought they did good with their offensive strategy,” he noted. “They did a good job at reading the defense, working their triangle offense, passing it in the post, kicking it out.”
