Pitchers' duel goes in favor of Blanco

A pitchers’ duel for five-plus innings came to a head in the top half of the sixth inning. With last Tuesday’s game scoreless between Cuero and Blanco in the sixth, the Panthers put runners on first and second with two outs. Cuero starter Jacob Baker looked to get out of the inning with a fly ball to left field, but the ball dropped. With both runners moving on the pitch, they both scored to provide the runs needed to win.
Blanco added one more later that inning on a bases loaded wild pitch by Tyler Maroney. Will Davis scored one for Cuero in the home half after reaching on a walk, advancing to third on a throwing error by Blanco’s catcher and scored on a groundout by Baker, making the final score 3-1 in favor of Blanco.
It was certainly a vast improvement from their meeting the previous week, which saw the fifth ranked in 3A Blanco Panthers cruise past Cuero, 11-1.
“We played a much cleaner game tonight,” Cuero coach Phil Schwarz. “The defense was much better. The pitching was really good.”
