Blue Knights Texas XLVIII held their first golf tournament on March 16, 2019, Sam Jones was chapter president at the time. The Blue Knights are a Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club and part of an international organization. Money raised as part of this event went into a scholarship fund that was created to offer tuition assistance to selected cadets attending the Victoria College Law Enforcement Academy.

On Sept. 25, 2019, Sam Jones passed away unexpectedly. Those who knew him could tell you he had a passion for helping people, riding motorcycles, serving his community, and he loved his wife. Jones believed in public service and served as a Paramedic in Hondo, Texas and later with Cuero EMS. He also served as a police officer starting his law enforcement career with the Yoakum Police Department and ended up with the Cuero Police Department a few years later. He also served members of Lifeway Baptist Church as he would volunteer his time to help where he could, including serving as an usher at funeral services. Jones was also known for his quick wit, infectious smile, as well as his kind and compassionate spirit.

Jones was instrumental in starting the local Blue Knights chapter, serving as the chapter’s first president. As president, he helped to raise money for a variety of organizations. Since its inception in 2016, BK TX 48 has donated money to Bluebonnet Youth Ranch, Warrior’s Weekend and area Blue Santa programs.
