While Matthew Boling of Houston-Strake Jesuit set the national record in the boys 100 meter dash, Cuero High School had their own set of stars at the 2019 UIL State Track & Field Championships on May 11. Though no medals were captured for Cuero this year, it was another noteworthy track season.
Two girls relays made it to state, along with Trey Moore in shot put. It was a bittersweet ending to the season for Cuero boys coach Dennis Remmers, who has seen Moore overcome so much in the past year, namely the loss of his mother.
“A lot of times it doesn’t go the way you want it to, but getting here is a huge accomplishment,” Remmers said of Moore, who finished ninth with a throw of 46 feet and 0.5 inches.
“I couldn’t be any prouder of him. He’s a remarkable young man. He’s got a bright future ahead of him. He’s gonna learn from these experiences. He’s gonna be a better son. He’s gonna be a great father one of these days and an unbelievable husband.”
