Cuero Little League and Texas Crossroads Softball are partnering Dec. 2-3 to host a girls fastptich softball tournament with proceeds to benefit the United State Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign. They will start at 9 a.m.
“There will be teams from all over south Texas, 8 and under to high school teams,” Cuero Little League board member Jim Hall said. “It’ll be a big event.”
There is no entry fee, but teams participating should bring one new unwrapped toy per player on each team.
“The toys will go to needy children,” Hall stated. “A lot of them will probably wind up in Puerto Rico and those areas where they were hard hit by hurricanes.”
You may also donate online at www.toysfortots.org or sign up to receive a toy.
“There’s hardly any Marine Reserves here, but I’m going to ask the local Veterans associations to participate,” Hall said. “It’s important for the kids. We ask our local residents to get involved and drop off toys. It would teach the children something about giving. “We’re real pleased to host it and have it here in Cuero.”
Cuero Little League has hosted tournaments before, but the opportunity to provide gifts for children makes this event bigger for them.
Hall said, “We would like everybody’s support. If they can’t stay for a game, just drive by, and there will be somebody out there collecting toys.”
