Special to the Yorktown News-View
The Yorktown Kitty Kats began District 29-AA action last Friday, as they hosted the Wallis Brazos Cougarettes. In what can only be described as a slugfest that had seven lead changes and six ties, the Kitty Kats emerged victorious, 43-40. Yorktown is now 11-6 on the season and 1-0 in district play. After Brazos jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, Yorktown cut the lead to 10-9, helped by a three-pointer by sophomore Katelyn Dodds at the buzzer that ended the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Kitty Kats took their first lead of the game and extended it to 15-10, before the Cougarettes roared back to take a 20-17 halftime lead. The third quarter was a see-saw affair, as Brazos extended their lead to 25-20, before Yorktown battled back to tie the score at 25 and then again at 27. The Cougarettes then went on an 8-3 run to lead 35-30 going into the final period. In the fourth quarter, the Kitty Kats picked up full court and pulled ahead 37-36 on two free throws by sophomore Emily Jones.
