Wildcats to face Badgers
The Yorktown Wildcats will faceoff against the Bruni Badgers in the Wildcats first game against another 2A opponent of the year, though it is a nonconference game. In their last three meetings, Yorktown has come out on top every time, with a cumulative points total of 57 to 33. It will be a tall order for Bruni to upset the Wildcats.
Yorktown’s previous opponents, both 3A schools, may have been the victors, but they were shown that the Wildcats could not be shutout. Moving back to their own 2A level of opponent, look for the Wildcats to come out swinging and leave a strong impression. Yorktown has won their last three meetings, and will be looking to make it four. In their last three games, Yorktown has outscored Bruni 57-33, with the largest point difference being the 2016 game’s final score of 28-7.
Bruni, with only twelve players on their entire roster, will have a tough time keeping up with the Wildcats. With a roster three times that size, Yorktown will be able to rest players and keep both sides of the ball fresh and alert. Look for an early run out of the gate, then Bruni to fade as the game hits the later quarters. Bruni will have momentum coming into this game though, after a 48-22 victory over Kenedy. The Badgers one advantage may be the fact that this will be the Wildcats first competition on artificial turf this year.
Game time is 7:30 p.m., at Bruni’s Badger Stadium. Live updates as the game progresses will be posted on the Yorktown News-View Facebook page.
