Wildcats to face Beavers

Both teams will enter the game on Friday undefeated in district play. The Falls City Beavers are 1-0 after Pettus forfeited last Friday. The Wildcats have recorded 2 district wins against both Agua Dulce and Woodsboro. According to Dave Campbell’s football magazine, the Beavers are predicted to be the district champion, while the Wildcats are to finish runner up. The Beavers are returning 8/6 starters from last season’s team that went 11-3 and were state semifinalists. Key players for Falls City include Luke Shaffer, (484 yards and 8TDs passing) who was moved to quarterback and reeled off 10 straight wins; Grant Jendrusch, who recorded 814 yards, 18 TD’s rushing, 71 tackles and 6 INTs; and Cole Thomas, who tallied 970 yards, 18 TD’s rushing, and 41 tackles.

In pre-season, the Beavers defeated Three Rivers, Stockdale, and Flatonia. Their sole loss of the year was dealt by the Poth Pirates. The series record between the Beavers and Wildcats is heavily one-sided with Falls City having always won, 6-0.  The latest defeat was last year, 42-13.  The closest matchup was in 2011, with the Wildcats losing by three, 37-40.

The Wildcats are lead by Drew Alexander and Kalen Barefield who both are leading the area in passing and receiving yards. Through six games, Alexander has totaled 1494 passing yards, 14 passing touchdowns, 180 rushing yards, and 4 rushing touchdowns. Barefield has 769 receiving yards, 9 touchdowns, 233 rushing yards, and 5 touchdowns. Other key players include linebackers Dylan Respondek and Jacob Guerrero, and running back/strong safety, DeQuan Clay.

This matchup will take place on Friday, Oct 8, in Fall City at Beaver Stadium. Kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
