This Friday, the Yorktown Wildcats will face the Mason Punchers for the 2A Region 4 playoffs. Yorktown, 8-4 overall, beat the Thrall Tigers while the 12-0 Mason Punchers defeated the Shiner Cardinals to advance.

While there aren’t many stats listed for Mason, their defense seems to be the key to their success. With 566 points total to their credit this season, they’ve only allowed a combined 40 points to their opponents over 12 games. The Wildcats key to this game may very well be finding and explointing any holes in the Mason defensive strategy.

Where the Wildcats record shows that they can maintain scoring drives throughout the game, Mason would seem to be a first half team. If the Wildcats can keep a steady pace and rope-a-dope the Punchers for the first half, they stand a chance to land the knockout blow with a second half Mason has yet to face.

The game will kick off at 7 p.m. this Friday at Edgewood Veteran’s Stadium in San Antonio. Follow the Yorktown News-View on Facebook for up-to-the-minute game coverage and scores. The Winner of this game will move on the face the winner of Refugio vs Holland in the quarter finalsnext week.
